Primary Practice Press - PARK Sunmin ‘a Walk into’
• About the publication
a Walk into can be described as an artist book and art criticism publication that begins with a documentation — or memory — of PARK Sunmin’s previous solo exhibition A Walk into You (2022, ONE AND J. Gallery, Seoul), and re-edits the perspective and experience that ran through that exhibition into the form of a book, reinterpreted with a time lag by its writers and designer. The sensory composition proposed by the artist in the original exhibition — moving from the physical body toward the inner life of the mind — is newly translated within the relationships between page, text, and sensation.
For instance, the works encountered as one moves through the physical structure of the exhibition space carry through from a sleeve encasing the book into three volumes, each of which is organized not in parallel sequence but by enclosing the next volume at its center, in a mode of “nesting.” Through this approach, readers are invited to “sense the whole while attending to the part,” and to simultaneously evoke language alongside the sensory experience that surrounds it — and from there, to meet the past, the present, and what lies ahead through their own distinctive gaze and feeling.
• PARK Sunmin
PARK Sunmin works across photography, video, drawing, spatial installation, publishing, and design to question the relationship between binary worlds — civilization and nature, inside and outside. Adjusting and modulating the distance between herself and the world, she gazes intently at her subjects: observing natural phenomena at a microscopic level through the camera lens, she uses them as a mirror through which to decode, from a macroscopic perspective, the fragments found in the fissures of unstable life within the city.
Her major solo exhibitions include The Library of Echo and Frost (2023, Perigee Gallery, Seoul), A Walk into You (2022, ONE AND J. Gallery, Seoul), and Highway geometry (2015, Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul), and etc. Her major group exhibitions include Declinazione Contemporanae (2025, MAO, Turin), Frame of Architecture (2024, Nam-Seoul Museum of Art, SeMA, Seoul) On Collecting Time (2023, Nam June Paik Art Center, Yongin) and Jeju Nature 2019 - reason for coexistence (2019, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Jeju).
