KWON Yongju explores sculpture alongside installation and video art. For his works of art, he focuses on objects easily found from daily life. At first glance, such ordinary objects resemble trash to be recycled or thrown away. Rather than think about the original location and its context, KWON regards them as materials that are extracted from the individual life, and as embellishments to the epidermis of the society. Via sculptural works created from daily objects, the artist creates a imaginary level of a realistic landscape made up of the traces of vulnerable individuals in the social system.
KWON has participated in numerous major group exhibitions including 《The Last Consummate Second》 (2022, NAM JUNE PAIK ART CENTER, Yongin), 《The World We Made》 (2021, PODO Museum, Jeju), 《Busan Biennale 2020 - Words at an Exhibition : Exhibition in Ten Chapters and Five Poems》 (2020, Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, and etc, Busan), 《Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2022 - Non-Sculpture : Light or Flexible》 (2020, Changwon), 《Where The Tides Has Been》 (2020, Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul), 《Rhythm Scape》 (2020, Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa), 《Minus Hours》 (2019, Wumin Art Center, Cheongju), 《Beyond the Making》 (2019, Wooran Foundation, Seoul), 《Gwangju Biennale 2018 : Beyond the Boundaries》 (2018, Gwangju Biennale Hall, Asia Culture Center, and etc., Gwangju). And he also has had solo exhibitions 《Portal》 (2022, Amado Art Space, Seoul), 《CASTING》 (2018, Doosan Gallery, Seoul), 《Tying》 (2017, Doosan Gallery, NY), 《Solidification》 (2016, Art space POOL, Seoul), and etc.
