Buoyancy

AN Gyungsu focuses on the vulnerability of individual lives in a social context that floats without firm anchorage—like a buoy adrift. The artist, who has previously approached landscapes from a macroscopic perspective, now turns to capture them through a more intimate and microscopic lens, seeking to convey the posture of individuals resisting isolated environments. In , the gestures of figures encountered above and below the surface of water in the paintings evoke a sense of personal precarity. These bodies, resisting gravity with drag, stage a scene of action and reaction, dramatizing gestures of survival that strive to hold on to life amid ruin.
