𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙮 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 is structured around two axes: the linguistic information embedded in someone’s “testimony” about a particular past event, and the nonverbal elements, like emotion or sensation, that can never be fully contained in language. For CHOI Seohee, testimony is an utterance in which edited memory and past sensibility intersect, a mode of speech that continually wavers at the threshold between the verbal and the nonverbal.
In the exhibition, the artist likens black and white, the distance and tension between these two extremes, to testimony, and spatially articulates the subtle boundary between the two poles. Within this interweaving of language and non-language, what was unheard and what failed to be conveyed gradually becomes perceptible.
