Heaven BAEK observes how people work, gather, and play within specific events or the ongoing flow of everyday life. She examines the forms of collectives they create and the contours of boundaries they shape, translating these observations into video installation works that stage these dynamics. Through this process, she raises questions about how the mechanisms of society and systems, as continuous threads of microhistory, influence and engage with our own selves.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries internationally including Frieze Film Seoul (2023), Goethe Institut, Dresden (2020), Sejong Art Center, Seoul (2019), Gwangju Biennale (2018), Busan Museum of Art (2016), Arko Museum (2015), Arario Museum Jeju (2015), MMCA, Korea (2015), Glasgow International (2014), Dongdaemun History & Culture Park (2013), Casa Asia Barcelona (2011) and more. Her performative talk works were held at Alserkal Avenue, Dubai (2020), basis, Frankfurt (2019), Arts Maebashi (2014), Ggulpool (2011) and among others. She had her solo exhibitions SO THERE WAS (Saro Leon Gallery, Las Palmas, 2019), Wolf and Wolf (Arario Gallery, Seoul, 2017), we; within us (Sindoh Cultural Space, Seoul, 2014) and Our Lady Vengeance (Insa Art Space, Seoul, 2013).
